“High Dunes”
10th Hole at Chambers Bay, Washington
436-Yard Par 4

Chambers Bay is a true links-style golf course. Having played and painted many links courses in Scotland and Ireland, I was chosen to produce the official fine-art painting and print for the 2015 U.S. Open Championship. I have always had a love for painting as well as playing golf. I have been playing golf since I was 12 and painted my first golf course around the age of 18. When I was asked to be the painter for this year’s U.S. Open, I was overjoyed to be able to do the two activities that I love the most.” – John C. Traynor

Chambers Bay, in University Place, Wash., is the host site of the 115th U.S. Open Championship (June 18-21, 2015), the first U.S. Open to be contested in the Pacific Northwest. Chambers Bay is the third public golf course to host the U.S. Open, which is conducted by the United States Golf Association.

To commemorate the championship, the USGA commissioned award-winning artist John C. Traynor. Traynor is highly recognized for his use of light and atmospheric effect in painting, and has captured the magnificent view of the 10th hole overlooking Puget Sound on this links-style course. The 10th green is beautifully nestled in a valley flanked by bunkers and set between two of the largest dunes on the course, hence the name of the hole: “High Dunes.”

Owned by Pierce County and designed by architect Robert Trent Jones II, the course is set on part of a 930-acre park which was formerly a gravel and sand quarry. Chambers Bay opened in 2007 and just eight months later, the USGA chose the course as the host site for both the 2010 U.S. Amateur Championship (won by Peter Uihlein) and the 2015 U.S. Open.
